THE LATE NPP MP, HON. ERNEST KUMI.

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest individuals involved in an alleged attack on the party’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Hon. Bernard Bediako, during the one-week commemoration of the late Ernest Kumi.

In a statement signed by Deputy National Communications Officer, Godwin Ako Gunn, the party demanded the arrest of about 20 individuals captured on video attacking their delegation.

The NDC has given the police until Monday, September 1, 2025, to act. Failure to do so, the statement says, will compel the party to arrest the suspects themselves and hand them over to the police by Tuesday, September 2.

According to the NDC, the party was officially invited to the event with a gold-plated invitation card. The delegation, led by National Chairman Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, included national and regional executives, MPs, and local party leaders.

However, upon arrival, the group was met with hostility from a mob that blocked Hon. Bediako from entering the funeral grounds.

The incident reportedly caused emotional distress to the widow of the late Ernest Kumi, who broke down in tears.

The NDC accused the attackers of being NPP supporters and urged the police to act swiftly. The party also warned against what it described as selective enforcement of the law and expressed its willingness to cooperate with the police from now until Sunday evening.

They further stated that individuals involved are well known in communities such as Boadua, Wenchi, Akwatia, and nearby areas.
