THE National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced strict voting and security rules for its constituency executive elections scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026, warning aspirants and their supporters against attempts to manipulate the process.

The party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, outlined the measures at a press conference at the J.J. Rawlings House, the party’s national headquarters in Accra.
He stressed that the rules would apply equally to all aspirants and delegates, warning that no individual would be allowed to undermine the credibility of the elections.
Under the directives, proxy voting is prohibited, meaning every delegate must be physically present to cast their ballot. Delegates must also present one of the approved identification documents—a valid Voter ID Card, the NDC plastic membership card or the Ghana Card—for verification before voting.

Mr. Kwetey further stated that tally voting would not be permitted for eight of the positions being contested. Delegates must therefore cast their votes individually for each position in line with the party’s voting rules.
To protect the integrity of the process, ballot papers for the Women’s and Youth conferences are to be kept securely and counted only after the main constituency elections have been completed.
The party has also assigned security responsibilities at the election centres to the Ghana Police Service. Personal security details attached to government officials, political appointees or other individuals will not be allowed into the voting areas.
Mr. Kwetey said the measures were intended to prevent intimidation, undue influence and unauthorised interference in the elections.
“The voting area must remain free from intimidation, undue influence and unauthorised interference. No government official should use public office or personal influence to intimidate delegates,” he stressed.

He urged aspirants, delegates and election committees to cooperate with the Electoral Commission and the Police to ensure peaceful and credible elections.
He also warned that threats, assaults and the destruction of election materials would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The General Secretary cautioned aspirants against allowing their personal ambitions to create divisions within the party, emphasising that no position was worth violence or damage to the NDC’s reputation.
“We are political opponents in an internal contest, but we must remain members of the same political family. Contest vigorously, vote freely and preserve our collective cohesion. The party is bigger than any individual,” he said.

He also appealed to the media to report the elections accurately and avoid sensationalism, urging party members to place unity above personal interests.
“Our unity is more valuable than any position. Let our conduct reflect discipline, maturity, tolerance and respect for the will of delegates,” he added.
The NDC is expected to hold its constituency elections across all 276 constituencies on October 24 and 25, with the Electoral Commission supervising the exercise and constituency election committees providing support.
