HON. ZUWERA Mohammed Ibrahimah, Vice Chairperson of Ghana’s Gender, Children and Social Welfare Committee, has called for stronger international collaboration to advance women’s empowerment and child protection, particularly between Ghana and Russia.
Delivering a compelling address, Hon. Ibrahimah, who also serves as the MP for Salaga South, highlighted key concerns:

– Low Female Representation*: Only 14.55% of Ghana’s Parliament are women (40 out of 275 MPs), compared to the global average of 26.1%.
– Child Abuse*: 22% of Ghanaian children aged 1–14 are exposed to violent discipline, including physical and emotional abuse.
She proposed targeted partnerships to:
– Improve Healthcare: Use Russian technology to enhance healthcare access in rural Ghana, focusing on maternal and infant health.
– Promote Education: Establish exchange programs and vocational training for vulnerable girls and young mothers.
– Boost Economic Empowerment: Support women-led cooperatives and access to microfinance and agro-processing technologies.

Hon. Ibrahimah also emphasized collaboration on child protection systems, digital inclusion, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
She proposed a Russia–Ghana Women’s Parliamentary Partnership to facilitate regular engagement and joint advocacy, stating:
“The time for incremental change has passed. The women and children we serve cannot wait another generation for gender parity or another decade for basic services.”
