THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC), in collaboration with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will on Monday, June 22, 2026, commemorate the 79th birthday of Ghana’s former President and founder of the NDC, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
The celebration, themed “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” will feature a series of events aimed at honouring the late statesman’s contribution to Ghana’s democratic and political development.
According to a statement signed by the Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, Mr. Godwin Ako Gunn, the first event will take place at 9:00 a.m. at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.

During the ceremony, the NDC headquarters will officially be named after Flt. Lt. Rawlings, while a bust of the former President will also be unveiled in his honour.
President John Dramani Mahama, leader of the NDC, is expected to address the gathering alongside other senior party officials and leading members of the party.
Later in the day, a public lecture and exhibition will be held at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra, starting at 4:00 p.m.
Renowned Ghanaian lawyer and academic, Tsatsu Tsikata, will deliver the keynote address on the theme of the event.

Other speakers expected at the lecture include Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), as well as Kofi Totobi Quakyi.
The organisers have extended an invitation to members of the public, NDC supporters, party members and cadres to participate in the activities and celebrate the life, leadership and enduring legacy of Flt. Lt. Rawlings.
The commemoration is expected to attract political leaders, government officials, party faithful and admirers of the late former President from across the country.
