THE DEPUTY Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Yussif Jajah, on behalf of sector minister Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, joined a host of dignitaries to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the passing of Pan-Africanist scholar Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois. The ceremony was held at the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre in Accra.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Jajah underscored the continued relevance of Du Bois’ concept of the “colour-line,” noting that African nations still grapple with issues of equity, representation, and social justice.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to preserving Du Bois’ legacy through cultural diplomacy and deeper engagement with the African diaspora.
Held under the theme “Du Bois Lives On: The Journey Ahead,” the event attracted high-profile guests including renowned journalist and author Nikole Hannah-Jones, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr. David Levering Lewis, and Du Bois’ grandson, Jeffrey Peck.
Also present were Hon. Lydia Akan, Minister of State; former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings; Hon. Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president; and other government and agency officials.
The event celebrated Du Bois’ enduring influence on African identity, global Pan-Africanism, and cultural heritage, while renewing Ghana’s pledge to uphold his vision through education, tourism, and historical preservation.
