FRESH SCANDALS continue to chase Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, Abuakwa South Member of Parliament and former Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat and now MP for Akyem Abuakwa South.
What many thought were rumours of misconduct have exploded into a full picture of how he allegedly abused state scholarships for personal and political gain.
According to anti-corruption advocate Lawyer Martin Kpebu, Agyemang used scholarships as a bribe to recruit a journalist to destroy then-MP Samuel Atta Akyea during the NPP’s parliamentary primary.
Lawyer Kpebu revealed on TV3 that the journalist confessed to accepting a promise of two foreign scholarships in exchange for publishing fabricated stories to smear Atta Akyea.
In a constituency that is a guaranteed NPP seat, this dirty trick helped clear the way for Agyemang to enter Parliament. The journalist later admitted that Agyemang never even delivered the scholarships he promised.
Lawyer Kpebu further stated that when an officer from the Office of the Special Prosecutor moved in to arrest Agyemang, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stepped in to stop the arrest, reportedly insisting that Agyemang was his friend. This has prompted Kpebu to prepare a petition to remove Agyebeng from office.
This scandal comes on top of growing concerns about Agyemang’s time at the Scholarship Secretariat. Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK/Ireland, H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, recently revealed that Agyemang left behind a staggering £32 million debt to UK universities.

She questioned how such debts were created while Agyemang kept issuing new scholarship award letters. Some stranded students have even claimed they paid £10,000 each for their scholarship offers.
Zita Benson expressed her frustration bluntly:
“I don’t know why Kingsley Agyemang is still walking free. The mess he created for the Mission—and for the country—is huge.”
Agyemang has attempted to defend himself by blaming the debt on “legacy liabilities,” but Zita Benson insists investigations are underway and that anyone responsible will face justice.
