THE PILGRIMS Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage.
The decision, contained in a press release dated September 8, 2026 and signed by the Director of Communications, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, is aimed at preventing over-subscription and ensuring effective management of the number of pilgrims for the pilgrimage.
According to PAOG, the closure is necessary to ensure a smooth, orderly and well-coordinated Hajj operation for all confirmed pilgrims.
The Office explained that over-subscription in previous Hajj operations had sometimes resulted in administrative backlogs and operational difficulties.
It said closing payments at this stage would help align the number of confirmed pilgrims with Ghana’s approved quota for the 2027 Hajj. PAOG stressed that keeping the number of pilgrims within the approved quota was important to ensuring a safe, efficient and successful pilgrimage.
The Office said the decision was taken in the best interest of prospective pilgrims and the nation, particularly to ensure that all pilgrims who have completed their payments are successfully airlifted to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Prospective pilgrims who were unable to complete their payments before the closure have been advised to wait for subsequent Hajj arrangements.
PAOG has also cautioned the public against individuals who may claim that they can secure opportunities for people to participate in the 2027 Hajj despite the closure of payments.
The Office urged the public to seek clarification directly from PAOG on any Hajj-related matter.
