THE NATIONAL Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is teaming up with global consulting firm KPMG to improve Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
As part of the partnership, KPMG’s Global Head of Healthcare, Dr. Anna van Poucke, paid a working visit to Ghana and met with NHIA Deputy CEO, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto.
The two sides discussed ways to make the health insurance scheme more efficient, reliable, and accessible.

Currently, about 56% of Ghanaians are covered under the NHIS. The goal is to reach 80% in the near future, with a long-term vision of achieving full universal health coverage.
The collaboration will benefit from KPMG’s experience in healthcare advisory, digital transformation, and financial systems. Key focus areas include improving NHIA’s digital systems, reducing financial leakages, and using new technology to provide better services.

Innovations like telehealth, e-pharmacy platforms, and AI tools to detect fraud are among the possibilities being explored to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all Ghanaians.
