THE HIGH Commissioner-designate of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Ireland, H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, has pledged close collaboration with the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) to boost foreign direct investment (FDI) and advance Ghana’s economic diplomacy agenda.

She made the commitment during a working visit to the head office of GFZA on August 21, 2025, where she met with the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Dr. Mary Awusi, and her management team.

The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the GFZA and the Ghana High Commission in London and explore ways to enhance investor engagement, especially within the UK market.

The two sides discussed strategic cooperation in promoting Ghana’s Free Zones Scheme and attracting UK-based investors into Ghana’s economy.

During a presentation, GFZA’s Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, Madam Anita Quashie, outlined key areas for partnership, including joint participation in international trade fairs, sharing investment leads, supporting local enterprises to meet international standards, and promoting Ghana as a competitive trade destination.

H.E. Zita Benson noted the historic nature of her appointment as the first woman to serve as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and assured the Authority of her commitment to deepening bilateral trade relations.

She emphasized that economic diplomacy would be a key focus of her tenure and expressed confidence that increased UK-Ghana business collaboration could drive growth in key sectors.

“I can assure you that my office will work hand-in-hand with yours to make the Reset Agenda of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama a success,” she stated.

Hon. Dr. Mary Awusi, in turn, thanked the High Commissioner-designate for the visit and reaffirmed the Authority’s readiness to partner with the Mission in promoting Ghana’s Free Zones globally.

The meeting ended with a renewed pledge to work together to boost investor confidence, deepen trade relations, and support national development through economic cooperation.
