THE GOVERNING National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched activities for this year’s NDC Month celebration, with a strong call on Ghanaians to support accountability, discipline and stronger state institutions.

Speaking at a media engagement at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the annual celebration is aimed at reflecting on the party’s history, renewing its ideals and educating the younger generation on the values that have shaped Ghana’s democracy.

This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising.”

Mr. Kwetey said the June 4 uprising remains an important chapter in Ghana’s political history because it promoted integrity, accountability and fairness in governance.

According to him, those principles continue to guide the NDC administration led by President John Dramani Mahama through its “Reset Agenda,” which seeks to rebuild public confidence in state institutions and improve governance across the country.

He also paid tribute to the founder of the NDC, former President Jerry John Rawlings, for his dedication to probity, accountability and social justice. Mr. Kwetey said the late former President’s legacy continues to inspire members of the party and many Ghanaians who believe in transparent and people-centred leadership.

The month-long activities officially began on May 15 and will continue throughout June with public lectures, commemorative events and community engagements across the country.

One of the major events will be a public lecture on June 3 in the Banda Constituency to discuss the significance of the June 4 uprising and the importance of accountable leadership.

NDC GENERAL SECRETARY, HON FIIFI FIAVI KWETEY.

On June 4, the party will hold a ceremonial flag-raising, wreath-laying ceremony and the lighting of a perpetual flame. The event will also feature a grand durbar involving chiefs and residents in the Bono Region.

June 10 has been set aside as NDC Day, with programmes focusing on the ideological foundation of the party and encouraging greater participation of women and the youth in governance and national development.

The party will also observe Cadres Day on June 19 in Kumasi under the theme: “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres.” The celebration will climax on June 22 with activities in honour of former President Rawlings, including the naming of the party’s headquarters after him and the unveiling of his bust.

Mr. Kwetey called on party supporters, cadres and all Ghanaians to take part in the activities, describing them as opportunities for political education, national reflection and patriotic renewal.

He stressed that the NDC remains committed to building a Ghana where state institutions work effectively for the people and governance remains transparent, inclusive and accountable.
