GHANA has reaffirmed its commitment to attracting investment from citizens living abroad, with the High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, highlighting government initiatives to expand housing opportunities and protect property investors.

She gave the assurance in her keynote address at the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo in London.
Mrs. Benson congratulated the co-founders of the Expo, Anna and Victoria Agyekum, popularly known as the Property Sisters, for establishing a trusted platform that has connected Ghanaians abroad with verified property developers, banks, lawyers and other investment opportunities since 2016.
She said the Expo had facilitated more than US$100 million in property transactions without litigation, helping to build trust between investors and institutions.

According to her, owning property in Ghana means more than just making an investment for many Ghanaians living abroad. It represents a sense of belonging, support for family members, preparation for retirement and the opportunity to create lasting wealth for future generations.
She said President John Dramani Mahama’s government recognised the importance of the diaspora to national development and regarded Ghanaians abroad as the country’s “17th Region”.
On housing, the High Commissioner outlined several government initiatives aimed at increasing access to affordable homes and creating opportunities for investors.

These include plans to construct 10,000 affordable housing units across the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Northern regions, the revival of the Saglemi Housing Project to complete 1,500 housing units, and a GH¢500 million District Housing Programme captured in the 2026 Budget.
She also highlighted efforts to improve access to housing finance through the National Homeownership Fund and expand opportunities for Ghanaians abroad to participate in the country’s housing sector.
Mrs. Benson encouraged prospective investors to visit the Expo’s information desks and the Ghana High Commission for guidance on property registration, business partnerships and available investment options.
She, however, stressed the importance of conducting proper checks before investing in property.
She advised investors to verify land documents, seek independent legal advice and ensure that contractual terms were clearly stated to protect their investments and promote confidence in Ghana’s property market.

The High Commissioner said Ghana welcomed responsible investments that offered sustainable returns, created jobs and provided quality housing for the population.
She assured participants that the Ghana High Commission remained committed to supporting investors and facilitating stronger business relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Mrs. Benson added that the Expo was also an important platform for strengthening Ghana-UK relations by connecting businesses, property developers, financial institutions and professionals for mutual benefit.
