WIDOWS and orphans in South Tongu in the Volta Region have received a major boost of hope and support after the District Chief Executive (DCE), Victoria Dzeklo, organised a special donation exercise to assist vulnerable members of the community.

The touching event brought together community leaders, Assembly Members, and residents in a show of compassion and solidarity for widows and children in need.

During the ceremony, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo presented assorted items, including bags of rice, canned tomatoes, clothing materials, exercise books, pens, and cash donations to the beneficiaries. The gesture was aimed at easing some of the burdens faced by widows and supporting the education and wellbeing of children in the district.

The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, also attended the programme and donated GH¢2,000 to support the initiative. He praised the DCE for her compassion and dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable people in the district.

Several Assembly Members were also present to support the exercise, including Hon. Mensah Kwaku Kudze, Presiding Member; Hon. Sylvester Dormenyo Woyome, Chief Whip and Assembly Member for Agorta Electoral Area; Hon. Francis Quashie Agbedeke of Hlevi-Toklokpo Electoral Area; Hon. Alexander Worlanyo Adzokatse of Dedo Electoral Area; Hon. Isaac Kuwornu of Kua Electoral Area; Hon. Prosper Dzimado of Agbadzakope; Hon. Christian Kwasi Voryexor of Agave-Afedume; and Hon. Alexander Aguadze of Agbakope/Lakpo Electoral Area, among others.

Speaking to the beneficiaries, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor encouraged the widows not to give up despite the difficulties of raising children alone.
“Whatever the good Lord has planned for your lives will surely come to fruition before your departure from this earth,” he stated.

He further assured them of available scholarship opportunities for their children and encouraged them to contact their Assembly Members or the MP’s office for support. The programme highlighted the commitment of leaders in South Tongu to promoting social welfare, inclusion, and support for disadvantaged groups within the district.

Many of the widows and orphans expressed gratitude to the DCE, the MP, and the Assembly Members for remembering them and bringing relief to their families. The event ended on a hopeful note, with renewed calls for unity, compassion, and collective support for the vulnerable in society.
