THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a scathing response to recent remarks by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, describing his comments as the clearest confirmation yet that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) collapsed under arrogance, mismanagement and reckless governance.
According to the NDC, Kufuor has finally admitted what Ghanaians have long endured—that the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration wrecked the economy, ignored sound counsel, and subjected citizens to years of hardship.
The NDC argues that Kufuor’s frank revelations expose an NPP leadership driven more by pride and political ambition than any genuine commitment to responsible governance.
Kufuor disclosed that he was sidelined in major national decisions, including the controversial National Cathedral project, the chaotic Domestic Debt Exchange Programme that affected pensioners, and the PDS scandal that dented the country’s image.
The NDC says these disclosures confirm that the NPP operated as a secretive inner circle, shutting out experienced voices while dragging the nation from one crisis to another.
In a press release signed by Deputy National Communication Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, the NDC questioned why the former President remained silent throughout the years when the decisions he now criticizes were inflicting pain on Ghanaians.
The party noted that Kufuor’s sudden candour—coming only after the NPP’s electoral defeat and internal fractures—raises serious doubt about his motives.

The NDC insists that Kufuor’s admission reinforces a long-standing truth: that the NPP prioritised political arrogance and abuse of public resources over the national interest. According to the party, the NPP leadership sacrificed the wellbeing of citizens for personal and partisan gain.
“At long last, even their own former President has admitted the obvious,” the NDC stated. “The NPP failed Ghana. They governed with arrogance, rejected wise counsel, and plunged the country into chaos. Their own elders have now confirmed everything we have been warning Ghanaians about.”
The party emphasized that the NDC, now steering the nation, is committed to responsible, people-centred governance—anchored on consultation, accountability and restoration of dignity to public service, principles it says the NPP abandoned.
“This country deserves better than the mess the NPP left behind,” the statement concluded. “Ghanaians must never again hand power to a party that refused to listen even to its own former President.”
The press release, signed by Deputy National Communication Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, underlined the NDC’s commitment to rebuilding Ghana after what it described as years of NPP-inflicted damage.
