THE GREATER Accra Regional Secretariat of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has successfully organised a two-day orientation for caterers, aimed at enhancing their skills in nutrition, hygiene, food safety, and local food sourcing.

The sessions took place on 18th and 19th August 2025 at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) auditorium and Chemu Secondary School in Tema, respectively.

The training focused on four thematic pillars:

  1. Improving Catering Practices and Hygiene – Caterers were equipped with practical knowledge on proper food handling, storage, and preparation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of schoolchildren.
  2. Promoting Nutritious Meals – Facilitators highlighted the role of balanced meals in enhancing pupil concentration, academic performance, and general health.
  3. Boosting Agriculture and Job Creation – Caterers were urged to purchase foodstuffs from local farmers to help strengthen rural economies, enhance food security, and create jobs in the agricultural value chain.
  4. Encouraging Education – The orientation underscored how quality school meals can improve enrolment, attendance, and retention, especially in underserved communities.

Madam Jessica Patience Braimah, Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the GSFP, commended the caterers for their dedication and enthusiasm.

She stressed that the programme was not only about feeding children, but about advancing national development goals across nutrition, agriculture, and education.

She also extended gratitude to the National Coordinator of the GSFP, Hajia Fati Forgo, for her leadership and continued support.

“With your partnership, we are building a stronger, more sustainable school feeding system that nourishes children and empowers communities,” Madam Braimah said.

She reaffirmed the GSFP’s commitment to ensuring no child goes to school hungry, while contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
