THE Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Central, Abdul-Rauf Tabazu, has donated about 1,000 modern school desks to selected public schools in the constituency to help address furniture shortages ahead of the reopening of schools.
Of the desks, 250 have been donated to the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), 200 to the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), while the remaining 550 have been distributed to selected Junior High Schools (JHS) in the constituency.
The donation is aimed at supporting schools that have been struggling with inadequate furniture, largely due to the deterioration and breakdown of old desks.
Public schools across the country are expected to reopen on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for the first term of the new academic year after the long vacation.
The intervention by the MP is therefore expected to provide some relief to schools in the Ayawaso Central Constituency and help create a more conducive learning environment for pupils, students and teachers.
The shortage of desks has over the years remained a challenge in some public schools, with pupils and students sometimes compelled to share desks or sit in uncomfortable positions during lessons when adequate furniture is not available.
Such conditions can affect teaching and learning, as pupils and students may find it difficult to concentrate and participate fully in classroom activities without proper furniture.
The donation of the new desks is, therefore, seen as a timely intervention as schools prepare to receive pupils and students for the new academic term.
The initiative also demonstrates Mr Tabazu’s commitment to supporting education in the constituency and helping schools provide a better environment for effective teaching and learning.
The provision of school furniture remains an important need for public schools, particularly as ageing and damaged desks require regular maintenance and replacement to ensure that pupils and students have access to basic learning facilities.
