THE NATIONAL Orchid Garden in Singapore has honoured Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, with a newly named orchid hybrid, “Vanda John Dramani Mahama.”
The unveiling took place during his visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
The orchid becomes part of the Garden’s prestigious “VIP Orchids” collection, a tradition that celebrates visiting heads of state, heads of government, and distinguished dignitaries.

As part of the ceremony, President Mahama signed the visitors’ book and was briefed on the history and significance of the Gardens.
The gesture reflects Singapore’s use of horticulture in soft diplomacy. The naming of orchids after world leaders is symbolic of goodwill and longstanding international friendship.

“Vanda John Dramani Mahama” now joins floral tributes dedicated to global leaders, reinforcing the ties between Ghana and Singapore.
