THE ANCHORING Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) has called for the immediate arrest of Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over allegations of assaulting a police officer.
In an open letter addressed to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, ADAM-GH’s Financial Secretary, Jonathan Alormasor, urged the Ghana Police Service to uphold the rule of law by taking swift action against the legislator.
“We demand his arrest with immediate effect to demonstrate to Ghanaians that the constitution is applicable to everyone, irrespective of who you are and the office you occupy,” Alormasor stated.
ADAM-GH emphasized that failure to act could erode public confidence in the police service and potentially embolden citizens to disrespect law enforcement officers.
“This is a very big test case for you to prove to Ghanaians and those who do not believe in your administration as IGP that you are competent and capable to deliver,” the letter continued.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Ghana Police Service or Mr. Afenyo-Markin regarding the allegations.
This development adds to the ongoing discourse on accountability and the impartial application of justice in Ghana, particularly concerning individuals in positions of power.
