A DELEGATION from the United States Department of the Treasury, accompanied by officials of the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra, has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to gain insight into Ghana’s ongoing reforms in the gold sector.

The delegation visited GoldBod on Friday, September 18, 2026, where it was received by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., alongside the Director of Responsible Mining, Prof. Ishmael Quaicoe, and the Deputy Director of Mining Operations, James German.
During the engagement, Mr. Nunekpeku outlined GoldBod’s mandate under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and explained the Board’s role in implementing the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).

He further briefed the U.S. delegation on a number of strategic initiatives being pursued by GoldBod to transform and strengthen Ghana’s gold value chain.

These initiatives include promoting local gold refining, reforming the national assay regime, developing nationwide gold traceability systems and providing bankable geological assessments to support investment and responsible mining.
The Deputy CEO also highlighted measures to formalise the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector, reclaim degraded forest landscapes and implement other interventions aimed at improving the efficiency, transparency and sustainability of Ghana’s gold industry.

The visit provided an opportunity for the U.S. Treasury delegation to engage directly with GoldBod on the Board’s mandate and its broader efforts to position Ghana’s gold sector as a more structured, traceable and value-driven component of the national economy.
