FORMER NEWSCASTER, YARO KASAMBATA.

Nat’l Tymes News Desk

FORMER news caster, Yaro Kasambata, has commended the Chief Justice for embarking on visits to various state institutions, describing the initiative as a commendable novelty that could strengthen the relationship between the Judiciary and other arms of government.

According to him, the visits by the Chief Justice, Mr. Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and the Judiciary are important because they provide an opportunity for the judicial authorities to gain a better understanding of how state institutions operate and the challenges they face in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Kasambata said as the guardian of the Constitution, the Judiciary needed to acquaint itself with the operational realities of state institutions, particularly because decisions taken by such institutions could later become subjects of judicial review.

He explained that direct engagements with state institutions could help the Judiciary appreciate the circumstances surrounding decisions brought before the courts, thereby contributing to a more informed and effective judicial process.

Mr Kasambata further noted that the visits could promote greater awareness and dialogue between the Judiciary and executive agencies, helping to strengthen respect for the rule of law and good public governance.

He said the engagements could also serve as a form of preventive oversight, allowing the Judiciary to identify systemic challenges early before they developed into disputes and eventually ended up in court.
“Such visits demonstrate proactivity and can help boost public confidence in the Judiciary’s role as a constitutional guardian,” Mr Kasambata said.

He maintained that the initiative should be viewed from its potential impact on governance and the administration of justice rather than through partisan political lenses.

Mr Kasambata cautioned against the tendency to criticise every government or institutional initiative simply because of political differences, arguing that such an approach could prevent society from recognising positive developments.

JUSTICE PAUL BAFFOE-BONNIE.

“We should not criticise everything because of politics, else we risk exhibiting what may be termed as an inferiority complex. What the Chief Justice is doing is a novelty worth commending,” he emphasised.

He said the Judiciary’s increased engagement with state institutions could ultimately contribute to better understanding among public institutions, improved governance and stronger adherence to constitutional principles.

Mr Kasambata therefore urged the public to encourage initiatives that promote institutional cooperation while maintaining the independence of the Judiciary and other arms of government.
