THE PEOPLE of Tanzui/Zorbisi/Sokabiisi Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality witnessed a major development breakthrough on Thursday, May 8, 2026, as government officially cut sod for the construction of a new modern 24-hour economy market complex at Tanzui.
The project, which forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to drive economic growth through the 24-hour economy policy, is expected to transform trading activities in the area and create new opportunities for thousands of residents, especially women, youth, farmers, artisans, and small business owners.
The colorful ceremony brought together government officials, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, constituency executives, assembly members, traders, and residents, all united in excitement and hope for a brighter economic future.
Speaking at the event, the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, described the project as a symbol of the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of ordinary Ghanaians through infrastructure and job creation.
The Regional Minister praised President Mahama for his bold leadership and dedication to implementing policies that directly impact communities across the country.
He also commended the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga Ayoo, for his strong support and efforts in pushing development projects within the municipality.
The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Hon. Isaac Adongo, also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting development initiatives that will empower local businesses and improve economic activities in the constituency.
Residents and traders in the area welcomed the project with joy, describing it as timely and transformational. Many believe the new market complex will help reduce congestion, improve sanitation, provide better security, and create a more convenient environment for business activities day and night.
When completed, the modern market facility is expected to become one of the major commercial hubs in the municipality, helping to boost local commerce and attract investors and traders from nearby communities and districts.
Community elders and opinion leaders expressed appreciation to government and all stakeholders for bringing such an important project to Tanzui. They noted that the market project represents more than just buildings and shops; it symbolizes hope, progress, economic empowerment, and a better future for the next generation.
The successful sod-cutting ceremony marks the beginning of what many residents describe as a new chapter of growth and transformation for Tanzui/Zorbisi/Sokabiisi and the entire Bolgatanga Municipality.
