MEMBER of Parliament for Agona East in the Central Region, Hon. Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr, has assured residents that all ongoing legacy projects in the constituency will be completed by the fourth quarter of the government’s four-year mandate.

According to her, the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration is fully committed to completing projects started by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, especially unfinished schools, roads, health facilities, and rural electrification works across Agona East.
“President Mahama has directed that all legacy projects should be assessed, and that has already been done. His clear instruction is that by the fourth quarter of the mandate period, these projects must be completed, and we are determined to make that happen,” she stated.
Hon. Pokua Sawyerr made these remarks during a three-day familiarisation tour of her constituency, where she met with traditional leaders to gather their views and concerns to help shape development planning for the area.
The tour covered 18 traditional areas out of more than 400 villages in the constituency. She was accompanied by constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the District Chief Executive for Agona East, Hon. Samuel Oscar Mensah.
During the tour, she paid courtesy calls on the Paramount Chief of Agona Nsabaah, Nana Okeseku Afari Mintah III, as well as chiefs of Agona Duakwa and Agona Ninta. The legacy projects in Agona East include unfinished Agenda 111 hospital projects, school buildings, road construction, and rural electrification.
Some key roads mentioned are the Michelle Junction–Duakwa road, Kwanyaako–Akotsi road, and the main Agona Swedru–Akroso road. The MP stressed that while government is committed to completing these projects, community involvement is important to ensure that development initiatives are properly monitored and sustained.
She explained that the tour was also aimed at listening to the needs of the people to ensure inclusive and people-centred development. The chiefs expressed appreciation for the MP’s visit and praised the government for involving traditional authorities and residents in development planning.
Nana Okeseku Afari Mintah III commended Hon. Pokua Sawyerr for improvements in road infrastructure in Nsabaah, the establishment of a Fire Service post, the creation of a court, and employment opportunities for the youth.

He, however, appealed for the speedy completion of the Agenda 111 hospital project and the main Nsabaah–Oda road to improve economic activities and living conditions in the area. Other requests made by the chiefs and residents included the completion of a social centre at Nsabaah, more job opportunities for the youth and the timely completion of ongoing health projects.
During the visit, Hon. Pokua Sawyerr presented bags of rice, bottles of cooking oil, and cash donations to the chiefs and residents as Christmas goodwill gestures. She also used the occasion to call for reduced political tension in the constituency, stressing that development should be the focus and not excessive politicisation.
