THE Government has intensified efforts to bring social protection services closer to vulnerable persons, with residents of Osu in the Korle Klottey Municipality engaging officials on programmes designed to improve their welfare.

The engagement, held on Friday, September 11, 2026, provided residents with an opportunity to learn more about government’s social protection interventions, particularly the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, while sharing their concerns and experiences directly with officials of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The initiative, led by the Ministry’s Social Protection Directorate, seeks to bring government’s social protection interventions closer to citizens while giving residents the opportunity to share their experiences, concerns and challenges directly with government officials.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, stressed the need for stronger social protection systems to support vulnerable persons and ensure that government programmes respond to the actual needs of communities.

She said the community dialogues were not only intended to educate residents about government programmes but also to provide an opportunity for government to listen to the people and use their experiences to improve the delivery of social protection services.

A major focus of the engagement was the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
Residents received information on the ongoing expansion and enrolment of beneficiaries, eligibility requirements, as well as the rights and benefits of persons registered under the programme.

Participants also used the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification on government interventions and raise concerns about difficulties they face in accessing social protection services.

The engagement further focused on child protection and safety, with pupils from some basic schools in the area educated on their rights and encouraged to report harassment, abuse and other situations that could threaten their safety and wellbeing.

The programme brought together residents, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders for direct discussions on issues affecting vulnerable groups in the community.

The Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, attended the programme, together with the Municipal Chief Executive and other stakeholders.

The Ministry said the Community Dialogue Series would continue in other communities as part of efforts to improve public awareness, strengthen community participation and ensure that social protection programmes reach the people who need them most.
