THE GHANA Revenue Authority (GRA) will begin implementing an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system at the country’s ports from February 1, 2026, to increase revenue and reduce leakages.
The AI system, to be provided by TRUEDARE Investments Limited, will be integrated into the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS). And this will support accurate valuation, classification, risk management, and the detection of origin fraud.
The system will draw data from shipping lines, customs ports and technology partners to analyze transactions and provide real-time insights to customs officers. This is expected to speed up the processing of declarations, reduce clearance times and improve transparency at the ports.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Commissioner-General of GRA, Mr Anthony Sarpong, said the initiative is expected to increase revenue mobilization by between 40 and 45 percent. He noted that the system will also improve fairness and accuracy in duty assessments.
Mr Sarpong assured importers that the AI system will not introduce any new charges or levies. He iterated that it will not duplicate existing systems but will rather complement ICUMS and strengthen GRA’s ability to identify risks and prevent revenue losses.

The project, which received parliamentary approval in late 2025, will be rolled out in phases, starting with the Tema Port. The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, explained that the AI system will not replace human officers but will support them with better information to make quicker and more informed decisions.
He added that the focus of the system is to promote compliance and facilitate trade, not just enforcement.
