THE MEMBER of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has commissioned a waste lines project at Lakpanaa Electoral Area in the constituency to improve sanitation and hygiene for residents.

Hon. Sowah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, said the project is part of ongoing efforts to address long-standing sanitation problems in the community, particularly for the elderly and other vulnerable residents.
The project, which cost about fourteen thousand Ghana cedis, (GH¢14,000) and was funded through the MP’s Common Fund, involved the construction of waste lines and chambers to support the proper disposal of wastewater within the area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Sowah explained that the project was initiated after she observed the difficulties residents faced, especially older people who had to carry wastewater over long distances to reach drains located far from their homes.

“I realized that some of our elderly people had to walk long distances just to dispose of wastewater, and it was not easy for them,” she said. “After discussions with the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Edward Adjetey Tetteh, we agreed that constructing waste lines closer to their homes would be the best solution.”
The waste lines project includes 21 chambers, all of which have been properly covered and fitted with padlocks to ensure safety and prevent misuse. Hon. Sowah noted that the community has been entrusted with maintaining the chambers to ensure the project remains useful and sustainable over time.
She praised the contractors for their high-quality work, noting that the waste lines were neatly constructed and blended well with the surrounding environment. According to her, one may walk around the area without easily noticing the waste lines unless they are pointed out.

In addition to the waste lines project, Hon. Sowah announced the donation of 100 street lights to the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly to support efforts to improve lighting and security across the constituency. She described the donation as timely, especially as the Christmas season approaches.
“We want our communities to be clean and well-lit during the Christmas holidays. A clean and bright environment improves safety and the overall well-being of our people,” she added.
Hon. Sowah urged residents of Lakpanaa to take full ownership of the project by keeping the facilities clean and reporting any faults to the appropriate authorities. She stressed that community involvement is essential to sustaining development projects.

The waste lines project is expected to significantly improve sanitation conditions in Lakpanaa and serve as a model for similar interventions across the constituency.
She also announced plans to construct two footbridges in the Tse-Addo Mantease Electoral Area, represented by Assemblywoman Madam Augustina Abbey, to address urgent transportation and accessibility challenges faced by residents.
The Assembly Man for the area, Hon. Adjei Tetteh, expressed his delight at the pipeline project being undertaken to convey wastewater into the main drain within his electoral area. He urged his colleague Assembly Members to remain hopeful and patient, assuring them that development projects would also reach their respective electoral areas, although there might be some delays.
Hon. Adjei Tetteh concluded by asking for God’s blessings and long life for the Member of Parliament, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
