THE SUPREME Court has stopped the Electoral Commission (EC) from going ahead with plans to hold a rerun parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency.
The court issued an order to pause the rerun election while it considers a judicial review case filed by Mr. Matthew Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate. Mr. Nyindam is challenging a High Court decision that cancelled the results of the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.
Earlier, the Tamale High Court annulled the election after a petition was filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate. Following that decision, the EC announced plans to conduct a rerun election.
However, the Supreme Court said there is enough reason to halt the process for now. As a result, all preparations for the rerun election have been suspended. The EC has been directed not to take any further action until the court gives a final ruling on the case.
The case has been adjourned to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.
The Supreme Court’s decision means the current situation in Kpandai will remain unchanged until the legal matter is fully resolved. The move highlights the court’s role in ensuring that election disputes are handled according to the law.
