DEPUTY Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Yussif Jajah, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to promoting African culinary heritage as a key part of cultural diplomacy and economic growth.
He made this known at the grand opening of the maiden AFRO GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL 2025, held at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra.
The event was also graced by the sector Minister, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, alongside dignitaries from across Africa and the international community.
The festival aims to celebrate and promote Africa’s diverse culinary traditions, offering a platform for cultural exchange and global appreciation of African food.
The opening attracted a wide range of guests, including ambassadors and representatives from countries such as Barbados, Senegal, Brazil, Colombia, South Africa, Morocco, Suriname, Peru, and Equatorial Guinea, as well as officials from UNESCO, the African Union, Mexico, and the British High Commission.
These dignitaries praised Ghana’s Tourism Ministry for spearheading such an initiative, noting that African cuisine has the potential to become a powerful cultural and economic export.
The festival is being organized in partnership with the African Union and other global stakeholders, marking a major step in positioning African gastronomy on the world stage.
The AFRO GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL 2025 continues throughout the week with exhibitions, live cooking shows, and tasting sessions that highlight the continent’s unique culinary identity.
