A DELEGATION from the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network paid a working visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, earlier this week.
Led by Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, the visit focused on building a strategic partnership aimed at advancing women’s empowerment and promoting female leadership across Africa.

Discussions centered on how institutions like GFZA can play a more active role in supporting women in business and leadership. The YAWC team also shared details of their upcoming conference scheduled for October 26–30, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda, under the theme “Empower Her: Shaping the Digital Economy Through Women’s Leadership.”
Dr. Awusi expressed her enthusiasm for the engagement and described the conference as an important and timely gathering. “At GFZA, gender inclusion is not just a policy—it’s a practice.

Six out of our ten directors are women, and we are proud of the environment we’ve created to enable women to rise and lead,” she stated.
YAWC’s interest in connecting women within Ghana’s free zones to mentorship and leadership opportunities was warmly welcomed. GFZA affirmed its commitment to supporting such impactful initiatives, particularly within the private sector.
This visit marks the beginning of what promises to be a meaningful and forward-looking partnership—one that will create more pathways for women to lead and shape the future of Africa’s economy.
