A GHANAIAN woman living in Germany, Ms. Edith Dzigbordi Baku, is using the success she has built abroad to create opportunities for others while supporting education and community development back home.
Ms. Baku, who hails from Leklebi-Dafor in the Volta Region, left Ghana at the age of 15 and moved to Germany in 1989. She later completed her education and, through hard work and determination, built a career and established herself in the country.
Her desire to help others led her to establish Putzhilfe Rhein-Main, a company based in Frankfurt which provides employment opportunities, particularly for Ghanaians and other immigrants who often face difficulties finding jobs when they first arrive in Germany.
But while building a life and career in Germany, Ms. Baku has remained closely connected to Ghana and continues to contribute to the development of her home communities.
One of her key areas of support is education. She currently sponsors the education of about 15 children in Ghana, helping them remain in school and giving them a better chance of building a meaningful future.
Her contribution goes beyond education. In Leklebi-Duga and Leklebi-Dafor, she has supported community development projects, including the construction of toilet facilities for schools and the building of a clinic to improve access to healthcare.

For Ms. Baku, giving back is a responsibility that comes with success, rather than simply an act of charity. She believes that people, regardless of where they live, can play a role in improving the lives of others and contributing to the development of Ghana.
“My journey is built on hard work, compassion, community service, and the belief that we can all contribute to building a better Ghana,” she said.
Through her employment initiatives in Germany and her continued support for education, healthcare and community projects in Ghana, Ms. Baku is demonstrating how success abroad can also become an opportunity to make a difference at home.
