THE MINISTER for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has intervened in a growing controversy involving a viral video of Nigerian national Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, who was seen claiming he intended to establish an “Igbo Kingdom” in Ghana.
Hon. Ablakwa revealed that he summoned Mr. Ihenetu following public concerns about the video, which many viewed as provocative and a threat to Ghana’s sovereignty.

At the meeting, Mr. Ihenetu clarified that the video in question was from 2013 and that he deeply regrets the statements made in that old interview. He also firmly stated that he has long abandoned any such idea and has not acquired any land in Ghana for that purpose.
The Nigerian national offered a heartfelt apology to the President of Ghana, the Government, traditional authorities, and the people of Ghana for the tensions his comments caused.
Minister Ablakwa reiterated Ghana’s commitment to its pan-Africanist values and open-door policy, which has made the country a beacon of unity and peace on the continent.
He, however, warned that while Ghana remains welcoming, it expects all foreign nationals to respect local laws, customs, and the nation’s peaceful traditions.

He also urged Ghanaians to remain calm and not allow the matter to escalate into xenophobic sentiments, especially given the historic and enduring bond between Ghana and Nigeria.
“Let us protect this sacred friendship and show maturity in how we handle our differences,” Hon. Ablakwa emphasized.
The Government says it remains committed to safeguarding Ghana’s unity and peace, while nurturing its cherished relations with all friendly nations, especially Nigeria.
