MINISTER for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces while promoting professionalism, discipline, and improved welfare for personnel.
Speaking at a joint durbar with personnel from Garrisons 1 & 5 at Burma Camp, Accra, Dr. Boamah praised the bravery and dedication of officers, soldiers, and civilian staff.

He urged them to uphold the highest standards of discipline and deal firmly with any elements within the ranks who deviate from military ethics.

The Minister strongly condemned the recent destruction of a revered statue in Bawku and the shooting of two soldiers in the area, assuring troops that government will rebuild the monument and ensure perpetrators are dealt with.
He also warned against soldiers offering illegal private guard services and directed the military command to urgently clamp down on the practice.

In a show of encouragement, Dr. Boamah donated GH₵10,000 to a soldier who refused a bribe while on anti-galamsey duty—a move that earned the soldier a promotion from the Chief of Defence Staff.
He reminded troops of their Honour Code, placing the nation and their comrades above personal comfort. Dr. Kofi Omane Boamah outlined key reforms under the NDC’s Reset Agenda, including:
– Enhancing operational readiness,
– Expanding housing with 10,000 new units,
– Boosting healthcare access under the Mahama Cares Initiative,
– Reviewing salaries, and
– Creating professional development opportunities.

“We are building a modern, responsive military with happier troops than ever before,” the Minister affirmed.
He concluded with a call for unity in building a stronger Ghana.
