MUNICIPAL Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso East, Abdul-Ganiyu Ibrahim, has made a passionate appeal for the establishment of a Science and Technical/Vocational Education and Training (TVET) school within the municipality, as part of broader efforts to tackle youth unemployment and promote self-reliance through skills development.
In an interview with the media at the Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim affectionately called Mallam Fari, highlighted the pressing need for technical and vocational education in Ayawaso East, one of the most densely populated areas in the Greater Accra Region.
He noted that while many young people in the municipality complete basic education, limited access to practical and career-oriented training has left a large number without employable skills.
“Our young people need more than just theory-based education. We need a Science and TVET school here that will equip them with relevant hands-on skills in areas such as carpentry, welding, electricals, ICT, fashion, and more, so they can become self-employed or job creators,” the MCE said.
He stressed that establishing such an institution will not only transform the economic prospects of the municipality but also reduce dependency and social vices caused by idleness and lack of opportunity.
Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Ibrahim called on the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and development partners to prioritize Ayawaso East in future infrastructure plans for science and technical education.
He added that with the government’s focus on Technical and Vocational Education as a catalyst for technology and industrialization, Ayawaso East deserves a fair share of the national investment in skills development. To this, he said they would implore the Education Director in the municipality to collaborate to ensure it gets to the Ghana Education Service for consideration.

The MCE’s call has been widely welcomed by opinion leaders and youth groups in the area, who believe such an initiative would help harness the potential of the growing youth population.
He indicated that there is a parcel of land available around Kanda that could be used for such a worthwhile venture. Despite the number of secondary schools in the adjoining municipalities, Ayawaso East also needs a secondary/technical school, he asserted.
