SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, ALBAN SUMANA BAGBIN.

THE MUCH-anticipated 24-hour economy initiative by the government is set to be officially launched on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025. This was disclosed by the Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, Mr. Augustus Goosie Obuodum Tanoh, during a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

According to Mr. Tanoh, the programme is designed to revolutionize Ghana’s economy with agriculture as its main anchor, focusing on boosting productivity through value chain development and increased efficiency.

“The 24-hour economy is built around three core pillars — production transformation, supply chain and market efficiency, and human development,” he explained.

Mr. Tanoh also revealed that the strategy includes five supporting components: Grow 24 (agriculture), Make 24 (manufacturing), Connect 24 (supply chain), Aspire 24 (mindset reorientation), and Show Ghana (cultural and tourism promotion).

He stressed that digital technology and mindset change would be integrated into technical and vocational education (TVET) to empower the youth with relevant skills for emerging jobs.

“Aspire 24’ will reset the Ghanaian mindset and include digital tech in TVET training, while ‘Show Ghana’ will leverage our culture to attract the diaspora and boost tourism revenue,” Mr. Tanoh added.

The delegation from the Presidency formally presented the 24-hour economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme to the Speaker, who welcomed the initiative.

In his response, Speaker Bagbin lauded the initiative as a significant opportunity for job creation and economic transformation. He urged the 24-hour economy team to work towards passing a legislative bill to institutionalize the policy for continuity, regardless of future political changes.

“The 24-hour economy is promising, but we must give it legal backing to ensure sustainability,” the Speaker emphasized.

The upcoming launch marks a critical step toward operationalizing a bold vision to expand Ghana’s productivity base and create a round-the-clock economy that boosts employment, manufacturing, exports, and tourism.
