AS GHANA’S Muslim community prepares for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, questions have arisen regarding the role of Alhaji Mohammed Mamah, also known as Alhaji Cole Younger, the National Zango Caucus Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite his prominent position and past involvement in Zango affairs, his current engagement in Hajj-related activities appears limited.
In 2024, Alhaji Cole Younger was appointed to the NDC’s national campaign team to lead policy formulation for Zango communities, highlighting the party’s commitment to these areas. However, recent developments suggest a shift in responsibilities concerning Hajj organization.

President John Dramani Mahama, upon assuming office, established a task force led by Alhaji Collins Dauda to manage the 2025 Hajj preparations, citing time constraints and the need for competent leadership.
This move, while aimed at ensuring a smooth pilgrimage, has led to concerns about the exclusion of established Zango leaders from key roles in the Hajj process.
The Concerned Muslims Association of Ghana has expressed frustration over delays in announcing the 2025 Hajj fees, emphasizing the need for timely communication to facilitate adequate preparation.
The absence of traditional Zango leadership in these discussions has further fueled apprehensions within the community.

While the government’s efforts to reduce Hajj fares have been lauded, the apparent sidelining of the Zango Caucus Coordinator raises questions about representation and inclusivity in matters affecting the Muslim populace.
As the pilgrimage approaches, stakeholders urge for transparent communication and the inclusion of established community leaders to ensure a cohesive and representative Hajj experience for Ghanaian Muslims.
