RE: PETITION FOR A FAIR PLAYING IN FIELD IN THE UPCOMING PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE CONTEST IN EAST AYAWASO.
Dear Sir,
I write to you from the city of Maricopa in Arizona U.S.A and I pray this petition meets you in the best of health. My name is Zakari Jony Ali, a staunch NDC activist who has served the East Ayawaso Constituency (EAC) in various positions over the years. I served as a party polling agent from 1992 to 2016.
I was the Secretary of the Adabiya Islamic School Branch from 1996 to 2000 and became the branch chairman from 2000 to 2016. I also served as the Nima East ward Secretary from 2000 and acted as both the Secretary and the acting ward Coordinator between 2008 to 2016. Although I now sojourn in the U.S, I keep close contact with my comrades back home and receive daily reports of activities within the constituency.
Sir, I write to express my worry and concern for the attempt by your good office to indirectly influence the decision of delegates with regards to the East Ayawaso parliamentary seat. Reports reaching me and party members within the East Ayawaso Constituency indicates that a meeting was held on July 18, 2022, between yourself, a few of your regional executives namely.
- Anthony Nukpenu – Regional Organizer.
- Mr. Jerry – Regional Communications officer.
- Hajia Alima -Dep. Women’s Organizer.
- Alhaji Norga — Dep. Regional Treasurer
- Ismaila Horoya Ali — Gt. Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator.
and the East Ayawaso constituency executives, led by the constituency chairman Ollabode Williams, his secretary Mohammed Barani, the incumbent MP Hon. Mc Naser Toure, and some selected East Ayawaso branch executives at the constituency meeting grounds in the Nima Hot Coffee area.
It is reported that, at the said meeting comments were made to the effect that your observations from afar suggested that the MP has been outstanding and should be maintained.
We find this comments as unfortunate and an attempt to subtly impose on us a candidate who has proven to be inept, unproductive, and incapable of discharging his duties as an MP.
For an MP who has successfully created division, rancor, and apathy during his ten years in office to be described as outstanding by the regional executive body suggests a lack of appreciation of the reality on the grounds in Eat Ayawaso, or a deliberate attempt to subtly cocrce delegates into maintaining the incumbent.
Any serious observer of the East Ayawaso Constituency will not fail to notice a silent apathy both within the branch executive body and party activists. Party activists within the constituency are finding it difficult to discharge their duties due to lack of support and logistics from the MP. The constituency executives are forced to use their personal funds to organize programmes due to the MP’s refusal to make available funds for their work.
Polling agents continuously complain of being left hungry and with no support during registration exercises and electioneering periods.
The attitude of the MP over the years is having negative effect on the fortunes of the party in the constituency and making the party unattractive to potential voters. If care is not taken the party will lose the East Ayawaso Constituency (EAC) seat in the not-too-distant future.
A case in point is the gradual decline of the EAC parliamentary vote margins. Between 2012 to 2020, the EAC parliamentary vote margins dropped from 12,760 down to 8617; a loss of over 4000 votes. Between 2016 and 2020, the constituency only managed to add a mere 176 votes to our numbers, whilst our opponents appreciated by a whopping 1,376 votes within the same period.
Ahead of the 2020 voter registration exercise, the MP in connivance with some constituency executives orchestrated the suspension of our hard working and most experienced Secretary Mr. Mohammed Barani, for reasons best known to the MP.
After the 2020 registration exercise, we observed a sharp decline in the number of registered voters in EAC from 59,001 down to a little over 48,000. Subsequently, we confronted the constituency executives to ascertain the reasons behind our decline.
It came out that the MP had absolutely refused to provide the logistics and finance needed by the constituency to undertake a successful exercise. The constituency Research officer mentioned the frustrations and difficulties he encountered in the discharge of his duties.
Apparently, the MP had turned down his request for budgetary allocation that would aid in his work. The constituency executives have been rendered ineffective due to the MP’s negative behavior.
This is an MP who has lost touch with the pcople and varnishes after primaries and only resurfaces during elections. An MP who has not risen to speak on the floor of Parliament even once in 10 years cannot be described as doing well. So, what is your bases for calling on the delegates to keep such an MP in parliament?
If he does well by spreading largesse on the region, from which you base your assessment of him as doing well, I write to respectfully inform you that Mc Nasser is the worst MP East Ayawaso has seen since the start of the 4th republic. So please allow the people to decide for themselves.
East Ayawaso has been and continues to be an integral part of the fortunes of the NDC, and any attempts to influence the decision of delegates can and will result in an unpleasant consequence.
Your Humble Servant,
Cc: The Chairman, National Democratic Congress, NDC; The Chairman, East Ayawaso Constituency.
