PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the ambitious $1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, a major development expected to transform the face of Accra and create new opportunities in the country’s hospitality, business and real estate sectors.
The mixed-use project will bring together modern residential, hospitality, commercial and leisure facilities, positioning the area as a major destination for business, tourism and entertainment.
The development will include about 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a modern conference centre with a seating capacity of 2,500 people, healthcare facilities and a shopping mall.
It will also have landscaped gardens, commercial and leisure facilities, as well as 503 parking spaces to serve residents, visitors and businesses within the development.
At the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama called for strong participation by Ghanaian professionals and businesses in the execution of the project.
He urged Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and indigenous companies to be given meaningful opportunities to contribute to the project.
According to him, involving local professionals and businesses would ensure that the huge investment does not only produce modern infrastructure but also creates jobs and expands economic opportunities for Ghanaians.
President Mahama also expressed the hope that the new conference facilities would help strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading destination for major international events.
He said the availability of world-class conference infrastructure would enable Accra to compete more strongly for major global gatherings, including conferences organised by the United Nations and other international bodies.
The President said such developments would further promote Accra as a centre for international conferences, diplomacy, tourism and business.
The Sentuo Airport Garden City Project is therefore expected to add to the changing skyline of Accra while supporting economic activity and creating opportunities for Ghanaian businesses and professionals.
