PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for the construction of a major multi-purpose car park and airport hotel complex at the Accra International Airport.

The project is expected to transform the airport landscape and further strengthen the facility’s position as Ghana’s leading gateway to the country and the West African region.

The proposed development will include a seven-storey modern car park with more than 2,000 parking bays, providing much-needed parking space for passengers, visitors and other airport users.

Beyond parking, the project is designed as a modern commercial and hospitality complex, bringing together hotels, shopping, offices, restaurants and recreational facilities in one location.

A key feature of the development will be a pedestrian connector linking the complex directly to the airport terminal, making movement between the facilities easier and more convenient for travellers.

The complex is also expected to have a shopping mall equipped with a food court, retail outlets and office spaces available for rental.

For leisure and entertainment, the project will include a sky lounge, providing visitors with a modern space to relax, dine and enjoy the airport environment.

Another major attraction will be a sky observatory, which will allow visitors to enjoy views of aircraft during take-offs and landings, potentially creating a unique experience for both travellers and aviation enthusiasts.

The project is therefore expected to go beyond providing additional parking facilities by creating a modern destination that combines transportation, hospitality, business, shopping and entertainment.

Its construction is also expected to contribute to the wider development of the airport area, create business opportunities and enhance the experience of travellers arriving in or departing from Ghana.

The initiative forms part of efforts to further modernise Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and improve the image of the country’s principal international gateway.

With the Accra International Airport serving as a major entry point for international visitors, the project is expected to give the facility a more modern outlook while helping to project Ghana as an attractive destination for tourism, business and investment.

The development is also expected to reinforce Ghana’s position as a strategic gateway to West Africa by providing world-class facilities capable of meeting the growing needs of passengers and airport users.

The sod-cutting ceremony on Thursday is expected to mark the beginning of what could become one of the notable commercial and infrastructure developments around the Accra International Airport.
