GOVERNMENT has announced ambitious plans to strengthen Ghana’s minerals sector by investing in aluminium and steel production to create jobs, boost industrialisation and reduce imports.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah said the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), in partnership with TDC, VALCO and Arise, has established Tema Industrial Parks Limited to develop a world-class industrial park within the next 36 months.
The project will include a modern aluminium foil factory with an annual production capacity of between 45,000 and 50,000 tonnes. The Minister also disclosed that GIADEC is engaging investors to establish a two-million-metric-ton aluminium refinery at Nyinahin.
On steel production, Hon. Buah said GIISDEC has completed advanced mineral resource studies at Oppon Manso in the Oti Region, where significant high-grade iron ore deposits have been confirmed.

He said adding value to Ghana’s mineral resources would reduce dependence on imported products, strengthen local industries and create thousands of employment opportunities.
