MINING communities across Ghana are set to benefit from new social infrastructure projects as government rolls out major investments to improve living conditions in mining areas.
Addressing the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah announced that the Mineral Development Fund (MDF) has secured approval to construct three small-town water systems, 16 solar-powered boreholes, schools in six districts, health centres in four districts and market facilities in six mining communities.
The Minister also disclosed that the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), with support from the Ghana Gold Board and the MDF, is carrying out geological surveys to identify gold-rich zones for responsible small-scale mining.

He explained that the exercise would prevent indiscriminate digging by directing miners to approved mineral-rich areas.
Hon. Buah further revealed that two research projects funded by the Mineral Development Fund are currently undergoing peer review to support evidence-based policies in the mining sector.
