THE MINISTER for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced a major step in government’s efforts to formalise small-scale mining, revealing that more than 50 applicants under the Community Mining Scheme have completed their mandatory training and are awaiting final approval to begin operations.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House, today in Accra, the Minister said the Minerals Commission had successfully registered and trained the applicants as part of efforts to promote responsible and sustainable mining.
According to him, the applicants have met all the required conditions and are only waiting for the Minister’s final approval. Hon. Buah said the formalisation of small-scale mining remains a key pillar of government’s strategy to curb illegal mining by ensuring miners operate in designated areas under proper regulation.

He stressed that the initiative would help protect the environment while creating decent and sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.
