THE NATIONAL Peace Council has held a peace dialogue with residents of Nkwanta South District in the Oti Region, as part of efforts to promote harmony and prevent conflict in the area.
The meeting, which took place on February 18, 2026, was led by the Oti Regional Director of the Council, Mr. Paul Akornor. It brought together community members to discuss the importance of peaceful coexistence and its role in development.

Addressing participants, Mr. Akornor stressed that peace is essential for progress. He noted that violence and conflict slow down development, destroy livelihoods, and create fear among residents. He encouraged community members, especially the youth, to work together to build a stable and united society.
The dialogue also gave residents the opportunity to share their concerns. Many spoke about how ongoing tensions have affected their lives and businesses, and they expressed a strong desire for lasting peace. The Council assured them of its commitment to supporting efforts that will help resolve disputes and strengthen unity in the district.

Another key focus of the discussion was tolerance and respect for diversity. Participants were urged to accept differences in ethnicity, religion, and political views, and to promote mutual understanding within their communities.
The National Peace Council described the dialogue as part of its continuous efforts to maintain peace in the region. It emphasized that peace building is not a one-time event, but an ongoing process that requires cooperation from all stakeholders.

Residents welcomed the initiative and praised the Council for engaging directly with the people. They called for sustained dialogue and collective action to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for Nkwanta South.
