THE National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expelled Mr. Umar Sanda from the party after he filed to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East Constituency by-election as an independent candidate.
The by-election is scheduled for March 3, 2026. In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said Mr. Sanda’s decision contravenes provisions of the party’s constitution and its official directive to support a duly elected parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
According to the statement, by choosing to run against the party’s endorsed candidate, Mr. Sanda automatically forfeited his membership under the NDC’s constitutional rules. The expulsion takes immediate effect.

The party further directed Mr. Sanda to cease using the NDC’s name, logo, colours, insignia, symbols, or any other intellectual property associated with the party in his campaign or related political activities.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to its officially endorsed candidate and indicated that it will fully participate in the Ayawaso East by-election under its approved banner.
