THE MEMBER of Parliament for Biakoya Constituency, Hon. Jean-Marie Formadi, has taken swift action following reports of a ringworm outbreak at CK Korfe Basic School, a fishing community in the Biakoya District of the Oti Region.
The outbreak, which affected several students, raised serious health concerns within the community and prompted immediate intervention by the MP in collaboration with district health authorities. Hon. Formadi, with the support of the Biakoya District Health Directorate, facilitated the provision of medications to treat affected pupils and prevent further spread of the infection.
District Health Director, Rita Ama Narlyn Wurapa, emphasized that proper personal hygiene remains one of the most effective measures in preventing skin diseases such as ringworm. She urged parents and guardians to ensure that children bathe regularly and maintain good sanitary practices.

She further appealed to relevant authorities to prioritize the provision of potable drinking water for the community, noting that access to clean water would significantly reduce the prevalence of skin infections and other related diseases.
The Headteacher of CK Korfe Basic School, Mr. Shine Kudior, expressed his appreciation to Hon. Formadi and the health team for their prompt response. He noted that the outbreak had negatively impacted teaching and learning, as affected students were unable to participate fully in school activities. “With this intervention, the school can now focus on recovery and prevention to ensure a safe learning environment for the pupils,” Mr. Kudior stated.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for the Biakoya District, Mr. Eric Oppong, assured residents that steps are being taken to improve the community’s water system. He also disclosed plans for regular visits by the district health team to monitor the situation and provide ongoing support.

The intervention highlights the commitment of both political and health authorities to safeguarding public health in the constituency. With sustained hygiene education, access to clean water, and continued monitoring, the outbreak at CK Korfe School is expected to be fully contained.
