THE MEMBER of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, has paid a compassionate visit to the family of Jalila Abdul Jalil, the Dodowa schoolgirl who was recently abused, to express solidarity and assure them that justice will be served.
During the visit, Hon. Hajia Zuwera said she was deeply moved by the incident and felt compelled to personally check on the well-being of the victim and her family.
Though saddened by the circumstances, she thanked God for Jalila’s life and noted with relief that the young girl is stable after undergoing a successful surgery.
Jalila’s mother shared that her daughter had travelled from Akweteyman to Dodowa in pursuit of education, hoping for a better future —not harm. She described the incident as a painful betrayal of the trust placed in educational and caregiving institutions.
Hon. Hajia Zuwera assured the family that the case will be pursued vigorously at the Parliamentary level, involving the Human Rights Committee and the Gender Committee, with a formal briefing to the Speaker of Parliament. She emphasized that anyone entrusted with the care of children must be held to the highest standard.
The MP stated firmly that the housemistress involved will be held accountable, adding that the Ministry of Education will also be engaged to prevent such incidents from recurring.

She reiterated that child abuse is unacceptable and reminded that Ghana has previously raised concerns about such cases before the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
“Children cannot protect themselves. It is our moral and legal duty as adults to protect them,” she said, describing the incident as deeply regrettable and vowing to pursue justice without compromise.
The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah for her visit and support, and prayed for justice to prevail.
