GHANA has earned high praise at the ongoing United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) session in Geneva, following a strong first-day engagement led by the Chairperson of Parliament’s Select Committee on the Rights of the Child, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, MP.

During the session, the CRC commended Ghana for its demonstrated commitment to child-friendly policies and sustained reforms aimed at protecting the welfare of children.
The Committee particularly applauded the country’s efforts to eliminate and reduce child labour, curb teenage pregnancy, combat child sexual exploitation—including child pornography—and discourage the use of corporal punishment.
Key progress highlighted included the implementation of the Ghana Accelerated Action Plan Against Child Labour, targeted interventions to prevent teenage pregnancy among schoolgirls, and policies that support the re-entry of young mothers into the education system after childbirth.
Hajia Ibrahimah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, noted that the Committee acknowledged Ghana’s robust legal and policy framework designed to safeguard children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

The CRC session offers Ghana an opportunity to present its achievements in advancing children’s rights while engaging with international experts to receive constructive feedback and recommendations to further strengthen national child protection systems.
