THE DISTRICT Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanumba South in the Northern Region, Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid, has led the signing of a grant agreement between the District Assembly and the Government of Japan for the construction of a modern CHPS compound at Zonyani.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, under Japan’s Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP). It was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, officials from the Japanese Embassy, traditional leaders, community members, and other invited guests.
The project aims to improve access to quality healthcare for Zonyani and surrounding communities, including Kalakpi, Lahito, and Chichagi, which together have a population of over 5,000 people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid thanked the Government and people of Japan for supporting healthcare delivery at the community level. He described the project as a major step toward improving the health and well-being of residents in the area.
“For many years, people in Zonyani have depended on a temporary CHPS structure,” the DCE said. “This new facility will provide a safe and dignified place for mothers, children, and the entire community to receive healthcare.”
He explained that despite operating from a makeshift structure, health workers at the Zonyani CHPS zone recorded 753 outpatient visits, 230 antenatal cases, 112 deliveries, and vaccinated 463 children in the past year. These figures, he noted, show the urgent need for a modern health facility.
Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid assured the Embassy of Japan and other stakeholders that the District Assembly will closely supervise the project to ensure quality work and timely completion. He also praised the chief and people of Zonyani for their commitment to supporting and protecting the facility when completed.

The new CHPS compound is expected to improve maternal and child health, support preventive care, and reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for medical attention.
The ceremony marked the official start of the project, which is expected to contribute to Ghana’s efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3—good health and well-being.
Many stakeholders at the event commended Hon. Musah Abdul Rashid for his leadership and commitment to development. They noted that his strong engagement with development partners continues to bring important projects to underserved communities in Nanumba South.
