THE SOUTH Tongu District Assembly has taken a major step to improve healthcare and education in the district with the start of four important community projects.
A sod-cutting ceremony was held to officially begin the projects, marking a new chapter of development for the people of South Tongu. The ceremony was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, and attended by key dignitaries.
They included Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor; the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; the Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency (STC), the Presiding Member, Hon. Mensah Kwaku Kudze; the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Siboo Braimah; and the District Engineer, Mr. Simon Deffor.


Also present were heads of departments such as the District Director of Health, Madam Mavis Agumeh; the District Director of Education, Madam Celestine Korsi Agordo; the District Procurement Officer, Mr. Anthony Edzila; and the District Finance Officer, Mr. Constant Atamah, among others.
The projects are being funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and are aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and basic education, especially in underserved communities across the district.

Details of the Projects:
All four projects have a contract duration of six months. Construction is expected to begin in January 2026 and be completed by July 2026. The projects include:
Lot 1: Construction of a CHPS Compound with ancillary facilities at Agorgbe, at a contract sum of GH¢977,621.71.
Lot 2: Construction of a 3-unit Junior High School (JHS) classroom block with ancillary facilities at Lakpo, at a cost of GH¢858,429.00.
Lot 3: Construction of a CHPS Compound with ancillary facilities at Lolito/Nyinuto, costing GH¢984,674.65.
Lot 4: Construction of a 2-unit Kindergarten (KG) classroom block with ancillary facilities at Aglokpovia, at a contract sum of GH¢743,702.77.
A fifth project, which is expected to be constructed in the Gonu-Agbokope Electoral Area, encountered challenges during the bidding and tendering process.


The Assembly has announced that it will be re-advertised to allow for immediate commencement.
Leaders Speak on Development:
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, noted that the projects align with the development priorities of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama. He highlighted the government’s bold decision to release 80 percent of the DACF directly to the accounts of all MMDAs, an increase from previous allocations.
According to him, this move will help assemblies implement development projects faster and more efficiently.
Hon. Gunu also called on traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents to take good care of the facilities once completed to ensure they serve present and future generations.


In her address, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo expressed confidence that the projects would bring lasting benefits to the communities. She assured residents that the Assembly is committed to ensuring high-quality work and timely completion of all projects.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, reaffirmed his commitment to lobbying for more development projects to improve the living conditions of people in the South Tongu Constituency.
