A POWERFUL windstorm tore through Dabala in the South Tongu Municipality last Friday, March 21, 2025, causing severe damage across the area, including a major blow to Sela Radio 97.1MHz – the region’s leading rural commercial radio station.
The station’s transmission mast was brought down by wind speeds clocking over 60 kilometers per hour, temporarily silencing one of the Volta Region’s most trusted voices in the media. While the main transmitter building survived the storm, the station sustained significant infrastructural damage. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

In a determined effort to keep the public informed, Sela Radio resumed partial transmission on Wednesday, with popular broadcast journalist – His Majesty Agbedu hosting a special morning show to brief listeners on the storm’s impact and the ongoing restoration efforts.
“Sela Radio is more than just a station; it is a lifeline for information, education and community development,” said Agbedu. “In these crucial socio-economic times, radios like ours are indispensable to the process of information dissemination.”

Sela Radio’s broadcast reaches audiences across the Volta Region and into parts of Eastern, Central, and Greater Accra Regions, offering political analysis, social discourse, spiritual enrichment and local reporting.
The station’s management expressed relief that no lives were lost and affirmed their commitment to restoring full service as swiftly as possible.
