THE LONG-TOUTED Skytrain project has plunged into scandal after $2 million was illegally disbursed without board approval – an explosive revelation made today by Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine disclosed that the funds were transferred at the request of Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi, Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and its CEO, Mr. Solomon Asamoah. However, internal GIIF records confirm the disbursement had no board authorization, rendering the transaction illegal.
In a stunning twist, Dr. Akuritinga Ayine confirmed that Mr. Asamoah fled to South Africa in February 2025 and has since relocated to Senegal to evade prosecution.
“The Skytrain scandal is a textbook case of financial recklessness and abuse of public trust,” Dr. Ayine asserted. “This payment was made without oversight, without accountability and in clear violation of the law.”

Investigators are now tracing the movement of the funds, probing offshore accounts, and identifying accomplices. The Attorney General emphasized that prosecutions will begin immediately after the investigation concludes in mid-April, with extradition proceedings on the table.
The scandal has triggered outrage among Ghanaians, particularly as the Skytrain project remains grounded – both literally and financially.
