The first batch of Ghanaian pilgrims returning from the 2026 Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has arrived safely at the Tamale International Airport.
According to a statement issued by the Communications Directorate of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG), led by Mohammed Amin Lamptey Hussein, the pilgrims landed safely on Saturday, June 13, 2026, and were subsequently moved to the Tamale Hajj Village arrival hall to collect their luggage.
PAOG disclosed that while the pilgrims arrived in good health and high spirits, many of them were unable to bring along some of their hand luggage. The items were reportedly rejected at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah because they exceeded the permitted hand luggage weight.
The Communications Directorate explained that under airline regulations, each pilgrim is allowed to carry only 10 kilograms of hand luggage on board the aircraft, while checked baggage of up to 46 kilograms is placed in the cargo hold of the plane.
Officials urged returning pilgrims to comply with baggage regulations to avoid delays and inconveniences during their journey home.
The successful arrival of the first flight marks the beginning of the return phase of this year’s Hajj operation, with more Ghanaian pilgrims expected to arrive in the coming days. PAOG expressed gratitude to Allah for a safe journey and successful operation so far.
