A POLITICAL activist from Ketu South, in the Volta Region, Jonathan Alormesor, has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Dramani Mahama to prioritize decisive reforms within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), describing the sector as critical to the administration’s long-term success.
In a strongly worded statement, Alormesor cautioned that the energy sector—particularly ECG—remains a sensitive and strategic area that could shape public perception of the government’s performance. He emphasized that despite past achievements, unresolved structural and operational challenges within ECG contributed significantly to political setbacks experienced by the NDC in previous years.

According to him, the current administration has a renewed opportunity to reset the sector and deliver sustainable, transparent, and efficient electricity services to Ghanaians. However, he warned that this effort must be accompanied by vigilance, accountability, and a willingness to break from entrenched practices that have historically undermined progress.
Mr. Alormesor further urged the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, to take a firm stance in sanitizing the sector. He stressed the importance of ensuring that contracts, promotions, and operational decisions within ECG are guided strictly by merit, national interest, and transparency.
“The energy sector is too important to Ghana’s development to be left vulnerable to inefficiencies or internal challenges,” he noted, adding that strong leadership and decisive reforms will reinforce public confidence in the NDC government.

While expressing confidence in the leadership of President Mahama, Alormesor encouraged party officials and government appointees to remain focused on delivering results that directly improve the lives of citizens. He emphasized that safeguarding key institutions like ECG is essential for economic growth, job creation, and national stability.
He concluded by calling for unity within the governing party and a shared commitment to reform, urging stakeholders to act in the collective interest of Ghana and ensure that the energy sector becomes a pillar of success for the NDC administration.
